The Iowa State Patrol is investigating a serious car accident yesterday morning in northern Guthrie County.

Two cars collided head on around 7:30am, and both drivers involved were life-flighted to Des Moines hospitals.

57 year-old Kurt Schoon of Scranton, IA, was heading west on Highway 141 about a half mile east of the Highway 25, Highway 141 junction outside of Bayard when he crossed the center line and struck 32 year-old Derek Woltman of Cherokee, IA, head on.  The Iowa State Patrol says it is unknown why Schoon crossed the center line.

Schoon was taken to Methodist Medical Center, and his condition is unknown at this time.

Woltman was taken to Mercy Hospital, and hospital officials tell Raccoon Valley Radio he is in serious condition and still being evaluated in Mercy’s critical care center.
