Soon it will be budget time again for the City of Jefferson and with that in mind, council members were given a budget priority worksheet to make the upcoming workshops smoother.

City Administrator Mike Palmer says the worksheets have about 25 items on them ranging from applying for grants to repairing streets to equipment purchases.  He states that the City Council members rank each item and then the city staff will compile those ranks.

He talks about why the City has the council members go through a process like this.

“What we’re looking for is whether there may be some disagreements on priorities.  Because what they come out of in this meeting is it tells the City staff what to focus their budget numbers on.  The Council has historically, over the years, has stayed the course, very steady on their priorities.”

This year’s list of items includes drainage improvements, obtaining grants, Quiet Zones for trains, Housing Rental Inspections, plus several others.

This will be the sixth time the Jefferson City Council has done this type of budget organization process with this year’s list to be completed by the September 24th’s regular meeting.
