Though the current comprehensive plan in Perry has yet to be finalized, an item that shows up on both it and the last comp plan is being worked on already.  The parking lot at the McCreary Community Building is getting a complete facelift.

City Administrator Butch Niebuhr says the parking lot has been in bad shape for quite some time and they city wanted to fix it the right way, once and for all.

“This is a complicated parking lot.  It’s not just a parking lot, we’re taking care of the storm water coming off that parking lot, taking care of drainage, making sure that the concrete we put down is going to last longer than the 15-20 years that we saw with the existing parking lot” says Niebuhr.

The project contract was awarded to Jensen Builders out of Des Moines for $399,900, or 11% less than the engineer’s estimate which will be paid for through a general obligation bond.

Niebuhr says depending on the weather, Jensen may be able to start the first of two phases this fall but the project may be delayed until spring.  One thing is for sure, it must be completed by the end of June 2014.
