A recount took place yesterday for the Greene County School District on the special measure of the Physical Plant and Equipment Levy.

A recount board which included Superintendent Tim Christensen, County Auditor Jane Heun’s appointee Terry Lang and Jenny Wessling hand count all the ballots from the canvass of votes that happened on Monday in the boardroom of the county courthouse.

The recount results showed that the special measure passed 332 “yes” votes to 327 “no” votes with 359 total ballots.

An excited superintendent Christensen explains the next step in the process for the voted PPEL.

“Moving forward, next April when the Greene County (School) Board goes through the budget process, will take a look and have to answer several questions.  First, at what level they want to put the voted PPEL in place and again it can be up to $1.34.  Then the next question they need to ask is what percentage are they going to put on income surtax and then what percentage is going to be on property tax.”

The Greene County Board of Supervisors are expected to correct the canvass of votes at their regular meeting this Monday.
