isu-extensionThe Guthrie County Extension and Outreach Office’s ‘Money Talk’ series is scheduled to begin tomorrow, but more sign-ups are needed or the talk will be cancelled.

Tomorrow’s talk at 6pm in the Mary Barnett Library in Guthrie Center is titled “Financial Basics: Setting Financial Goals and Planning your Spending.” It is the first of the five-part Money Talk series, which is supposed to meet every Thursday for the next five weeks.

Extension Office Program Coordinator Mary Ebert says the goal of Money Talk is to teach residents in Guthrie County to gain better savviness with managing money and more.

“We also encourage spouses to take it together or father/daughter, mother/son pairs to take it.  It’s free for any high schooler who comes with an adult just because it helps open up the doors to a lot of different discussions that you could have that you’ve never had before with some of your financial matters.  You could talk about retirement, what you both have for financial goals for saving money–just things like that.”

Ebert says she is surprised that there has been a lack of interest in the series, as there have only been two registrants to this point. Ebert is hopeful that last-minute participants will register and see the benefits of the course.

Ruth Freeman, a local family financial specialist from Jefferson, is slated to be tomorrow’s lecturer if the series is not cancelled.

Registration fee for the course is $25.  To sign-up call the Extension Office at 641-747-2276.
