lake panoramaThe Lake Panorama Association has a reminder for residents who are considering open burns this fall.

Although the lake area has received more rain than surrounding lands, crop and roadside grass conditions are still very dry, and the Association advises residents not to burn in windy conditions or near dry fields.  The possibility of a fire spreading is greater under these conditions.

Audubon County to the west and Greene County to the north actually have burn bans currently in effect due to severely dry conditions.

Residents are asked to have water and fire tools on hand while supervising their fire until is completely out.  Association members may burn material that grows on their lot, but may not burn trash, lumber, construction debris or other non-natural growing materials.

Burning must also not be done in roadside ditches or drainage areas to keep soil loss at a minimum.

Anyone with questions about burn policies at the lake can contact the Association at 641-755-2301.
