lake panoramaGeneral Manager John Rutledge says the Lake Panorama Association Security is currently looking for witnesses that might have information regarding a boating hit and run over Labor Day weekend.

A boat running at a high speed out of Burchfield Cove on Labor Day evening around 9pm, hit a private dock east of Sunset Beach, and destroyed the dock’s chair, tore the sectional dock in half and dislodged a concrete landing on the property.  The LPA estimates the damaged caused to be several thousands of dollars.

Rutledge says the boat is likely black or dark blue in color, as LPA Security found paint chips off the boat where it hit the dock.  He says the LPA has checked with local fiberglass repair companies to see if any boats have been brought in for service recently, but no successful leads have emerged.

Rutledge says the LPA could use assistance from residents.

“We’re very fortunate we don’t have very many of these incidents in our history.  We’ve done some investigation and have just have not been able to come up with the person who hit it.  So, if anyone knows anything about that we’d appreciate information on it.  We pride ourselves on being a very safe lake and that’s something we like to look into when it happens, but fortunately it doesn’t occur very often.”

Any members with information about the incident should contact the LPA Office at 641-755-2301.
