A popular residential tree planting program is coming to Perry next month.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Alliant Energy’s Operation ReLeaf program will be holding an event in Perry on October 10th.
Through the program, Alliant Energy customers can purchase trees at a deep discount. Instead of the normal retail price of $65 to $125 each, the landscaping trees are offered for just $25 each.
Advanced orders are recommended and customers can purchase two trees per household ahead of time. The day of the event, if there are extra tress available, residents will be able to purchase them at pick-up time.
Species available include chinkapin oak, white oak, hackberry, littleleaf linden, river birch, serviceberry and Norway spruce. Shade trees are 6-8 feet tall in 5 to 7 gallon containers and the conifers are 2-3 feet tall.
In addition to picking up the trees on the 10th, a urban forestry specialist will lead a workshop that provides information to avoid common mistakes that often result in dead trees.
It takes place from 4:30-6:30pm at the Dallas County roads maintenance building at 1215 Highway 141 in Perry.
