perry logoThe City of Perry closed down the open yard waste dump site last year, but residents still have a few options to dispose of their leaves, grass and tree trimmings.

The annual fall yard waste burning period begins tomorrow.  Residents are allowed to burn yard waste in the backyards of their private property only from 10am to sundown.

But especially with the mostly dry weather we’ve been experiencing for a few months now… City Administrator Butch Niebuhr stresses the importance of supervising all controlled burns.  With the grass and leaves being so dry, Niebuhr says fires can start and spread even quicker than normal so it’s crucial for residents to supervise fires at all times.

The yard waste burning period lasts through most of November.  However, residents are encouraged to use alternate methods of disposal so they are not bothering their neighbors who may be sensitive to the effects of smoke and such.

The city’s yard waste pickup will continue weekly through mid-November as well.
