new opportunitiesRegistration for Greene County residents to receive heating assistance from the federal government begins tomorrow.

New Opportunities Coordinator Teresa Lansman says the federally funded grant low-income home energy assistance program allows families to receive funding to pay for their heating costs throughout the winter months.

Lansman states when you come in to apply, by the time the process is over, you will know how much you will be receiving to help pay for your heat throughout the winter.  She talks about one big positive with the program.

“From the moment that they sign up until April 1st, they can not be disconnected with their gas or electric.  So that’s an added bonus that we kind of help out with.”

Registration for anyone over the age of 60, are on social security or are disabled, starts on October 1st and everyone else can sign up starting November 1st.  Other information needed to apply are social security cards, proof of income and heat or electric bill.

Anyone with questions can call Lansman at 386-2719.
