A Panora man was involved in a fatal car crash on Friday afternoon in Audubon County about four miles east of Kimballton.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 42 year-old James Gibson of Panora, was driving his 2012 Ford F-150 truck on Highway 44 at around 1:30 in the afternoon, when for unknown reasons he crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2011 Chrysler Town and Country van driven by 82 year-old Harold Akers of Exira.

Both Akers and his 79 year-old wife Doris Akers were killed in the accident.

Gibson was transported to Aubudon County Memorial Hospital by Elk Horn Rescue to be treated for minor injuries.  Hospital officials tell Raccoon Valley Radio that Gibson has been treated and released.

Assisting the Iowa State Patrol at the scene were Aubudon, Cass and Shelby County Sheriff’s Offices, Elk Horn Fire and Rescue, Audubon County Medical Examiners and the Audubon County Attorney.

The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.  Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information when it becomes official.
