stuart cityThe West Central Valley football team didn’t get the result it wanted on the field in its Homecoming game last Friday, but the team did do some positive work earlier in the day.

After the Stuart PD shut down the tee-peeing festivities early on Thursday night after reports of vandalism throughout town, members of the football team helped other West Central Valley students who took it upon themselves to clean up the trash and re-arrange the park benches and tables that had been thrown all over Lawbaugh Park.

Head coach Tony Hooper says he was proud to hear about some of his players showing the leadership to set the right example in the community.

“We do talk a lot about how the character of a team is going to define the way that people see your program, and it’s something that we have wanted to improve and something that we’ve taken pride in.  Being examples for other people in the building–it’s good to see that some of our players have taken that to heart.”

Coach Hooper says he and the school’s administration also preach the importance of sportsmanship to all players on all sports on a regular basis. The school’s sportsmanship rating has continued to improve the past couple years.

West Central Valley staff received comments recently from the administration at Council Bluffs St. Albert’s regarding the football team’s sportsmanship.  St. Albert’s coaches and staff praised the team for the sportsmanship and integrity it showed during and after the loss back on September 20th.
