karen younieKaren Younie has been labeled as a true friend and strict but fair administrator who went above and beyond for her students.

Younie was the Greene County Middle School principal before losing her battle with cancer.

Formerly a guidance counselor at Manson Northwest-Webster School District, she started her career at Jefferson-Scranton as a guidance counselor and eventually became the district’s middle school principal.

Superintendent Tim Christensen says Younie was with the Jefferson-Scranton School District for 14 years.  She started as a high school guidance counselor for four years, then became high school principal for seven years and was the middle school principal for three years.

Christensen comments that Younie was a dedicated individual who made sure that students were successful both in the classroom and in life.

“Karen was an outstanding administrator.  She was firm and fair.  But the biggest thing, she cared tremendously about students, teachers, everybody and would go the extra mile to help them out and did whatever it took to help them be successful.  So (she’ll) be sorely missed.”

Visitation services are today after 11am at the Slinginger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson and memorials can be taken to the Greene County Schools or to the funeral home.
