healthiest stateEarlier this week we told you about Dallas County Hospital hosting a local Iowa Healthiest State walk in Perry next week, well residents in other area towns are also invited to participate in the healthiest state initiative.

Woodward area residents are invited to participate in an informal walk on Wednesday at 3pm around the Woodward Resource Center campus.

Dallas Center is also hosting an event Wednesday.  Theirs will start at the Raccoon River Valley trailhead in downtown Dallas Center at 6:30pm.

The roughly 7.5 city block walk is a 12 minute stroll for the average walker, though people of all speeds and abilities are welcome to participate.

The Healthiest State Walk is part of the initiative started by Governor Terry Branstad and Lieutenant Governor Reynolds in 2011 as an effort to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation by 2016.  So far, Iowa has improved from 19th healthiest in 2010 to 9th in 2012.
