P1010674A Jefferson suspect was arrested on multiple charges including damage to a police vehicle on Tuesday.

Police Chief Dave Morlan reports that at 12:45am on Tuesday, a police officer responded to a domestic abuse assault call at 601 South Chestnut Street.  He says the officer spoke with Michael Lynn Heard, Sr., age 52 and then asked him to wait by the door of the residence while the officer spoke to Crystal Heard.

The couple began to argue which involved Michael pounding on the windows of the house and screaming and yelling ensued.  The officer asked Michael to stop causing a disturbance, but he refused to do so.

Michael was walking away from the officer which he said he told Michael that he would be forced to a taser if he didn’t comply, which Michael eventually gave up and was handcuffed.  When the officer went back inside the home, Michael began kicking the back window of the police vehicle which caused substantial damage.  He bowed the back door and did damage to the cage partition along with other damages totaling over $4,000.

The officer transported Michael to the Law Enforcement Center where he was uncooperative but eventually was put in the county jail where he is currently being held.

Chief Morlan says Michael Heard is charged with domestic abuse assault which is a serious misdemeanor, interference with official acts, harassment of a public official, disorderly conduct and obstruction of emergency communications which are all simple misdemeanors along with criminal mischief which is a Class D Felony.  Chief Morlan comments that there is a possible probation revocation pending from Polk County.

According to Iowa Courts Online, since 1997, Heard has multiple traffic violations, drug charges, forcible entries and a third degree sexual abuse charge in Polk, Carroll and Greene counties.

He currently in the Greene County Jail on a $100,000 cash-only bond with a court trial date scheduled for October 9th.
