footballAs the defense struggled mightily against Newton last Friday, ADM’s offense tried to keep up with the Cardinals’ scoring pace, but the Tigers failed to execute consistently in the 45-28 defeat.

Offensive coordinator Steve Stanley says consistency has been the coaching staff’s primary emphasis all year long, and to see that element of play missing from the field Friday was disappointing.

Another point of emphasis the ADM coaches have continually reiterated–creating momentum on the offensive side and having that carry over to the defensive side, or vice versa.  Stanley says that momentum was lacking last week, and it has to be found again quickly.

The Newton loss has attention of Tigers’ players, and Stanley says they’ve been taking care of business in practice with a different level of focus this week.

“I can say last night during film, you could hear a pin drop.  Typically they’re a group of kids that like to have fun, and last night, it was… focused.  They wanted to see what they were doing offensively and defensively as far as Perry goes, and they were definitely focused.  So we’ll see tonight when they get the pads on, hopefully that carries over to the field.”

ADM takes on the rival Perry Bluejays this Friday night on the road.  With a record at 2-5, Perry is another team that could easily be overlooked, but Stanley says that will not happen.  As far as he’s concerned, Friday is a win-or-go-home game, and his players know it.

“With the playoffs, it takes the top four teams.  We don’t want to be in that bottom half, we want to be hosting the game come first round of the playoffs so we can get our momentum going for the playoffs.  I don’t want them to be satisfied with, ‘okay we’ve made the playoffs’.  I want it to be, ‘we need to win out, we’re gonna win our district, we’re gonna host a game and we’re gonna get this thing rollin’.”

Friday’s pregame coverage will begin at 7 o’clock on 107.9FM, KKRF.  Kick-off will follow at 7:30.
