Despite a 3-4 overall record and 2-2 mark in Class 2A District 8, the Greene County Rams still have a chance to finish in second place in the district and host a first round playoff game at Linduska Field on Wed., Oct. 30. That won’t happen without victories in the last two regular season games including an Oct. 18 match up with winless Clarinda Academy (0-7, 0-5). The Eagles have lost 34 games in a row dating back to the first game of the 2010 season, but they can put up some points. CA lost 54-26 last Friday at Shenandoah and they dropped their season opener in Osceola to Clarke Community, 34-26. That game was tied 26-26.

Greene County head coach Dean Lansman and the other coaches are emphasizing taking care of what the Rams can control and not worrying about what the other team’s record is. Lansman has preached all season long that some special things could happen at the end of the regular season if the players worked hard to improve each day, listened to their coaches, and kept a positive attitude. If Greene County finishes 4-2 in the district and tied with Clarinda for second, the Rams would get the number two seed and a home playoff berth based on the Oct. 11 head-to-head 28-25 victory over the Cardinals. If Greene County doesn’t go 2-0 in the last two games, a playoff berth could still be possible, but a home game in the opening round would not. The Rams end the regular season on Oct. 25 in Ida Grove vs. OABCIG (4-3, 2-3).
