Perry’s Academic Cultural and Enrichment Services before and after school program is celebrating Lights On After School this week and the public is asked to help out.

This afternoon is the Walk for P.A.C.E.S. fundraiser at the Perry High School Track.  Director Mary Hillman explains how community members can get involved.

“You can pledge either per lap that the students will be walking or a flat fee donation.  No amount is too small because every little bit helps with our program, it could be for a field trip, it could be for supplies for the program, it could be for the staff or translating that we need.  All those things are really critical” says Hillman.

Hillman says all amounts help and the program supports students well beyond their years in elementary and middle school.

“I’d love to be able to hit the thousand dollar mark if we could get that.  If people donated a dollar, literally, and we had a number of people do that, it’s amazing how it adds up.  So again I just want to emphasize I think it’s a great support to our students, we’ve been here long enough I’ve seen a lot of our students graduate and go on to college and come back and work for me. I’ve helped them receive scholarships through their service at the program and move on.  So I think it’s doing a lot of good not only for the students but for the community of Perry.”

The walk takes place from 2:30-5pm and everyone is welcome to stop by and donate or walk with the students.
