The Perry Humane Society will be traveling to Des Moines this weekend to participate in the annual American Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’s 200 Challenge.

Abby Benefiel says the local organization’s first goal of the event is to gain exposure, while helping ASPCA meet their goal of having 200 pets adopted this weekend.

Benefiel says they have many pets up for adoption right now including many dogs and about two dozen cats.

The Mega Match-a-Thon takes place Sunday at the state fairgrounds and Benefiel says it’s also a chance to work together with the 6 other local rescue organizations.

It takes place from 10am-4pm and will also feature dozens of vendors offering a wide variety of pet items.
