Greene County head football coach Dean Lansman doesn’t want to hear it when someone refers to tonight’s Class 2A District 8 football game in Jefferson with Clarinda Academy as one to count in the victory column. It’s true the Eagles are 0-7 this season, 0-5 in the district, and the program has lost 34 games dating back to early in the 2010 season, but they’ve been competitive at times this season. “Clarinda Academy was tied 28-28 with Clarke (Osceola) and they led Shenadoah last week 8-0. You watch them on film and see some very good athletes. They have quickness and play very hard. We’ve tried to prepare for them like we would any opponent and we have a lot of respect for their players and coaches.”

Greene County is 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the district. A win tonight would set the Rams up for the regular season finale on Oct. 25 in Ida Grove vs. OABCIG with not only playoff hopes intact, but a chance to finish as high as second place in District 8.

This is the last scheduled home game for the Rams this season and the last of their careers for the Greene County seniors. It is also the first trip to Jefferson for Clarinda Academy. Coverage from Linduska Field starts at 6 p.m. on KG98 with kickoff at 7 p.m.
