The Raccoon Valley Radio listening area will be well represented at the Nov. 2 Coed State Cross-Country Championships north of Ft. Dodge at Kennedy Park. State qualifying meets were held Thursday across the state in all four classes. The top three teams and top 10 individuals from each site advance to the State meet.

Individual qualifiers included a pair of champions. Greene County senior Allison Higgins won the 2A girls’ race at Lake Panorama and Perry junior Akem Akok won the boys’ competition at Winterset in 3A. Other qualifiers in 3A include: Brianna Mueller and Josh Berger, both from ADM. Other 2A qualifiers are: Hunter Simmons, Hannah Appleseth, and Karlee Johnk, all of Panorama, along with Shelby Hunemiller of West Central Valley (Stuart). Qualifiers in 1A include: Trey Thompson of Ogden, and a trio of Nodaway Valley (Greenfield) boys’ runners in Shane Breheny, Heath Downing, and Brayten Funke. On the 1A girls’ side, Nodaway Valley’s Destiny Scar and Kristen Weber from Earlham qualified.

Two girls’ teams advanced to State from the area. Panorama was first at the par three golf course at Lake Panorama’s 2A meet and the Greene County girls were second. The five point scorers for the Panthers were Appleseth, Johnk, Meredith Olson, Maggie Smith, and KC Gafkjen. The five scoring points for the Rams were Higgins, Emily Christensen, Eme Johnson, Olivia Hansen, and Noelle Gray.

Three other area teams missed State Meet qualification by one spot. The Perry boys were fourth at Winterset, the Nodaway Valley boys were fourth at Treynor, and the West Central Valley girls placed fourth at Lake Panorama.
