The Greene County football team won its fourth game in a row and is playoff bound after winning on Friday night in the regular season finale at Ida Grove over OABCIG, 42-7. The Rams will be at home on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. in the opening round of the Class 2A playoffs vs. North Polk (Alleman) in a rematch of a week 2 meeting won by the Comets, 27-13. Greene County is 5-4 and the second place team from District 8 at 4-2 while NP is 8-1 and they were third in District 7. First place Gilbert, second place West Marshall (State Center) and the Comets all were 5-1 in that district and the 13-point differential tie-breaker was used to determine who was first, second, and third. The Rams are used to playing in the football postseason, but this will be the first playoff game at home at Linduska Field since 2006.

The Rams were dominant on Friday as they built a 35-0 halftime lead and were up 42-0 until the Falcons scored with 1:16 remaining in the game. Junior running back Dylan Hamilton ran for touchdowns of five and 17 yards and he totaled 119 rushing yards on 20 carries. Sophomore quarterback Daric Whipple had rushing TDs of two and seven yards, and he was six of seven passing for 101 yards. Whipple tossed a TD pass of 28 yards to junior Jake Carey. Senior TJ Lint set the tone early with a touchdown run of 68 yards just 1:04 into the game. Greene County allowed the Falcons just 98 yards of offense while collecting 367 yards themselves.  The Rams led by just a 6-0 score with less than eight minutes remaining in the first half when they opened up a big lead with 29 points in the last 7:30 of the second quarter.
