The ADM volleyball team begins its journey to the state tournament at home tonight against Grinnell in the first round of the district playoffs.  

Led by seniors Torrie Hook and Maddie Powers, the Tigers finished the regular season 23-12 overall and won the Raccoon River Conference title outright with a perfect 7-0 record.  They also ended the regular year ranked 14th in Class 3-A according to the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

Head coach Mary Beth Scott is excited to get postseason play underway tonight, but first she reflected on how ADM has gotten to this point.

“It has been a great year, and you know you just never know things are going to be as you go into the season, I mean you have expectations, but it really depends on do the girls gel, are they able to work as a team, and they have certainly been able to show that.  Any team that wins conference has mastered being able to work together and that’s what they were able to do and that’s why we’ve accomplished so much.”

Looking at Tigers’ opponent tonight, Grinnell enters the contest with a 15-18 overall record, and one of those losses came just over a week ago to ADM in the Knoxville Invitational.

Despite that easy victory just nine days ago, Scott says her players will not be overlooking Grinnell this evening.

“Grinnell is very much like us.  They are not a big team; they are very athletic.  Again, if we don’t all show up and we don’t have our game face and we’re not ready to keep our shovels handy, then it could be a long night, and at this point, any team can win when you get to districts.  I just try to keep them focused on the match we have now–we’re not looking towards any other match other than beating Grinnell.”
