For the first time in several seasons the volleyball teams from Greene County and West Central Valley face each other. The meeting comes tonight in the new gymnasium in Stuart at 7 p.m. in the opening round of Class 3A regional play. The match will be broadcast on KG98 with coverage beginning at 6:45 p.m.

Greene County is coached by veteran Donna Carhill who is one of a select group of Iowa high school volleyball coaches to have guided three different programs to a state tournament. Coach Carhill had Scranton High School at state in the 1980’s, Carroll High in the ’90’s, and Jefferson-Scranton last decade.

WCV is coached by Dan Boss. According to Activities Director Todd Broman, Boss began the season as the Wildcats’ assistant, but took over the head job as a “fill in” after the former head coach abruptly resigned.

The Rams are 14-16 in matches while the Wildcats were 2-9 the last time updated statistics were recorded on QuikStats, the officially statistics service used by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

Tonight’s winner meets either Atlantic or third ranked Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) at Kuemper on Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. in the next round.
