Following an 0-3 start, the Greene County High School football team heads into tonight’s Class 2A playoff game with seventh ranked North Polk (Alleman) riding a four game winning streak. The Rams (5-4) were second in District 8 while the Comets (8-1) tied for first place in District 7 with Gilbert and West Marshall (State Center), but were third for playoff purposes based on tie-breaking criteria.

Dean Lansman is head coach of the Rams. He has seen great improvement since week one when the Rams were soundly defeated at Perry, 45-14. The young Rams improved steadily throughout the season with just two seniors starting on offense and three of defense. “We’ve seen a lot of growth from this team as the season has gone on. The coaches never lost faith in the players and the players kept believing in what the coaches were telling them. It’s really been rewarding and we hope we can keep it going against a very good North Polk team.”

The Comets were 27-13 winners in Jefferson in week two and they’ve topped Greene County teams a total of three times in the past 12 months.

Coverage from Linduska Field in Jefferson begins at 6:30 p.m. with kickoff at 7 p.m.
