Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) and Greene County square off tonight in Class 3A Region 3 semifinal volleyball at the Kuemper High School gym in Carroll. Coverage on KG98 begins at 6:45 p.m. with match time set for 7 p.m. The Knights have been ranked as high as number one this season by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and are currently 24-4 and ranked number three. They finished third in the Hawkeye 10 Conference behind bigger schools Harlan and Council Bluffs Lewis Central. The Knights are 60-14 in sets. Greene County is 15-16 in matches and 42-47 in sets. The Rams tied for fifth among 10 teams in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference.

Greene County head coach Donna Carhill has coached volleyball for over 30 years in this part of the state and her squads have faced Kuemper teams many times over the years. “Kuemper is well coached, very athletic, and the kind of team that doesn’t make many mistakes, but when they do, you have to take advantage.”

The Rams began Region 3 play with a 3-0 sweep of West Central Valley at Stuart while the Knights won on their home floor vs. Atlantic in the opening round. Tonight’s winner moves on to the Nov. 5 Region 3 final vs. either East Sac County (Lake View) or North Polk (Alleman).
