Bayard Accident PhotoA Bayard man and his passenger were transported to a Carroll County Hospital early Saturday morning to be treated for injuries after they were involved in a single car accident about three miles east of Coon Rapids.

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Michael Keith Klingenberg of Bayard, was southbound on A Avenue near 330th Street just after 4am, when he reportedly fell asleep at the wheel of his 1993 Dodge Durango and entered the east ditch.  After leaving the roadway, Klingenberg’s vehicle struck a farm field drive and rotated 180 degrees before coming to rest facing north.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office says Klingenberg’s vehicle was estimated to be a total loss.

Klingenberg and his passenger, whose name has not been released, were taken to a Carroll County Hospital by Guthrie and Carroll County EMS units for evaluation.  The condition of the driver and passenger is unknown at this time.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office says it is still investigating the accident and charges are pending.  The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office along with the Carroll County Deputy, an EMS unit from Bayard and EMS and Fire Units from Coon Rapids were also among the first responders to the scene.
