footballThe ADM football season has been over for about a week now, but Tigers coaches continue to reflect on another year that ended with a district playoff appearance.

Defensive coordinator Bric Nelson says he’s most proud of how his unit bounced back from their rough performance at Newton in week seven, a loss in which ADM allowed over 500 yards of offense to the Cardinals.  For a coach as prideful as Nelson is on the defensive side, that performance didn’t sit well, but boy did things change down the stretch.

“Defensively, they were continuing to progress throughout the year so I was happy with that.  (But) having that first round loss is never what you plan to have.  It’s disappointing to see a lot of the seniors go out (that way), but I think the future is bright defensively, and you know, they played hard.”

Nelson says his biggest task for next season will be replacing three leading performers that happened to play on different levels of his defense.  Defensive end Isaac Norton, linebacker Darold Baker and safety Tate Jensen will leave particularly big shoes to fill, and Nelson hopes younger players will be hungry to fill the void they leave.

Nelson thanks that dynamite trio and the rest of this year’s senior class for a great season.

“It’s hard to stomach toward the end of the year because they’ll be missed.  I hope they’ll continue on in their futures, whether it be football or schooling or life ahead of them, I hope they continue to always keep working hard each and every day and become the most they can.”
