footballWhile the season moves farther and farther into the rearview mirror, ADM head football coach Mike Whisner can’t quite move into the offseason just yet.

Whisner has been in the Des Moines area this week trying to learn a few more things on the gridiron.  Even for someone with 20 plus years of coaching experience, that’s the life of a football coach… as season after season flies bye in seemingly no time at all, you never stop preparing, and Whisner is no different.

“It’s amazing how quickly (the season) does go.  I mean it kind of wares on you because the first night off it’s like, ‘man, I need to be going to do something’.  So I’ll go to a couple practices of some 4-A schools in the Des Moines area and watch them run their practices for the playoffs and just stay involved somewhat with football until it’s done.  Then we move on, work out in the offseason with the kids and then, track starts.”

Whisner is also the head track coach at ADM, and even though he loses a huge class of departing seniors from his football team, many of those players will be focal points of his track squad in the spring.

With speedsters like Tate Jensen and Grant Goeden to build around, Whisner should be seeing some success in the spring just like he did this fall.
