The seniors on this year’s ADM volleyball team have experienced a roller coaster ride during their careers in Tiger uniforms.

A couple of them even played on the varsity team since their freshman year, when the program was going through some transitory struggles.  Then last season, the Tigers came up just short in the Raccoon River Conference and lost a hard-fought regional final match against Red Oak.

This year was a different story in conference, however, as head coach Mary Scott and her Tigers–led by seniors Allison Gottschalk, Torrie Hook, Maddie Powers and Haley Schepers–finally eclipsed Bondurant-Farrar to win the conference crown.

Scott says ADM’s great 2013 season, which ended in the regional final this past Tuesday, wouldn’t have been possible without the stellar play and outstanding leadership from those four seniors.

“They’re just a great, great group of young ladies.  (They’re) what you ask for from your players… girls that show up every day, they have a smile on their face, they make the commitment in the summer, they make the commitment with club.  They’ll do whatever it takes to better the team.”

Scott adds that her seniors will leave a big void to be filled not only on the court, but behind the scenes as well.

“I always kind of tell them they become like my daughters, and for that group especially (since) I’ve spent this much time with them, I’ll certainly miss them a lot… and they know that.”
