volleyballEven though the ADM volleyball team will have to rebuild its identity next season without likes of outside hitters Allison Gottschalk and Torrie Hook, head coach Mary Beth Scott has said she’s excited about the challenge of molding a new team with the talent she returns.

As the Tigers move fully into their offseason, Scott says she has a request of her players to consider if they’re serious about wanting a chance to repeat as Raccoon River Conference champions.

“We always strongly encourage our girls to play club volleyball, there is no doubt about that.  If they aren’t able to play club volleyball due to playing other sports or other things they have going on, then there is the commitment in the summer.  We have open gyms, we have scrimmages, we go to camps, and we certainly always want them working out–being in the weight room, being in good physical shape.”

Scott says a commitment to physical activity of some sort is crucial for any sport during the offseason, but expectations for the volleyball team are higher now, and her players know that.

“The more touches they can get on the ball in the offseason, it’s certainly going to better themselves and better our team.  Unfortunately and fortunately, it goes both ways, our sports never seem to end, and to be good, you have to work at it and it takes a lot of hard work in the offseason.”
