ADMAs the ADM football team moves further into the offseason and many of its players transition into the winter sports that are mere days away from game action, head coach Mike Whisner says there is one crucial piece of advice he has for those players that will be returning: stay ready.

“The big (concern) is, and I think any program that has success year after year is complacency.  These kids cannot think that, ‘well, I’m just going to show up next fall and we’re going to be good again’.  They have to work things to get better at–get themselves stronger and faster and try to be a better athlete in the offseason.”

Whisner is a big advocate of playing multiple sports at the high school level.  Many football players will take to the wrestling mat this winter, and others will compete on the track team in the springtime.

Regardless of what sport you play or what you do in the months away from football, Whisner says his players cannot be satisfied with where things stand.

“Those other teams… JV was 7-1, so there’s at least seven teams there that are looking at ADM saying, ‘you know what, we want to beat them next year’.”

The ADM football team will hold its end-of-season awards banquet tomorrow from 4 to 6pm at the high school.  Tune-in to Raccoon Valley Radio sports next week when we reveal those award and letterwinners.
