ADMJosh Berger’s cross country career ended a couple weeks ago now, but what a year the senior captain had for ADM and head coach David Zwank.

Berger was the lone runner from the Tigers’ boys team to qualify for the state meet, where he placed 89th out of 128 competing runners.  Though it wasn’t his best effort of the season, Berger says he was just happy to make it that far.

“It was just exciting and (I) was full of adrenaline.  I mean it was definitely a new experience and I got a little nervous but besides that I had a great time running at Fort Dodge.  I think I ran good in the first two miles, but I kind of died in the last miles and that’s where I could have made most of my improvements.”

The weekend after state, Berger also had the opportunity to run in the Senior All-Star meet with some of the top senior runners across Iowa competing.

As it always seems to do, Berger’s senior season flew by, and while he does have track to look forward to in the spring, Berger says he’ll miss not having cross country season every fall.

“I’ll probably just miss the whole experience of running in the meets and competing against other schools and individuals–that was the most exciting part for me.  I’ll also miss my teammates–we had a good team this year.”

With his career now over, Berger says he will look into running cross country at the collegiate level. His top choice right now is the University of Iowa.
