ADMThe ADM girls basketball team sits at 1-1 on the season after taking care of business at home against Van Meter on Tuesday night.

Even with the impressive one-point win over the Bulldogs, the Tigers have looked inconsistent through their first two games, and head coach Brett Watson says his team has many improvements to make before they really take off.

Watson says he likes his players to excel in four specific areas each game, but through the first two contests, he feels they’ve played to their capabilities in just one of those areas.

“Our first one is we have to play solid defense and I don’t think either game was our best defensive effort at all which has kind of been disappointing because last year that was our calling card–we were a very good defensive team last year and this year we haven’t really hit that.  Our second area is we want to rebound the basketball and win the rebounding war, but that has probably been our biggest weakness so far.  Another area is taking care of the basketball… we did a pretty good job with that Monday night, but (Tuesday) night we did not at all.  And our last area is playing with poise and we call it “next play,” and I think we’ve (done) a very good job with that.”

The Tigers will have today off before hitting the practice floor again tomorrow.  With three practices until ADM faces rival Dallas Center-Grimes, Watson says his team will be working solely on two areas: defense and rebounding.

The Tigers have been heavily outrebounded the first two games with 6-foot Kendra Chapman out of the lineup.
