basketball thru hoopGiven that tonight marks the official beginning of the ADM boys basketball season, we’ll look with a little greater depth at tonight’s matchup with the rival DC-G Mustangs.

The Tigers were fortunate enough to gain more valuable playing experience this past Saturday, when the likes of West Des Moines Valley, Earlham and Carroll Kuemper visited Adel for a round of scrimmages.

Here is head coach Aaron Mager on what his team worked on during Saturday’s action.

“We’re actually just continuing to work on our execution, making a little bit quicker decisions within our offense.  Defensively, (we’re) just trying to react a little bit quicker, make sure we keep working hard.  I think the effort, really over the two works we’ve been working has been good.  The attention to the finer details is really where we’re at right now… we need to shore up a few things.”

Mager says the one particular area the Tigers need to shore up is in better handling defensive pressure that teams throw at them, especially considering their opponent tonight.  Expect the Mustangs to get after it defensively.

Mager speaks highly of a DC-G team that went 22-3 last season, but he also believes his team will be ready for a great battle this evening.

“I appreciate the way they play–they play the game right, they play it hard, they execute.  So we’ve got our hands full and we know that… at the same token we’re going to respect them but we’re not going to fear them and we’re going to go out and do some of the same things that they’re doing, which is execute, play consistently hard, play smart–those kinds of things.  We’ll see where the chips fall at the end of this thing.  Obviously we want to give ourselves a chance to win it in four quarters of time.”

Tonight’s boys’ opener is slated to begin at 7:30 or 15 minutes after the conclusion of the girls’ game on 107.9FM, KKRF.
