Greene County head wrestling coach Mark Sawhill  has seen his team win 60% of the matches they’ve wrestled, yet the team is 2-5 in dual meets. The main culprit is forfeits as the Rams are open at four weight classes and although it pains him to lose dual meets, he’s seen his kids wrestle pretty well.

The Rams were last in their four-team Ram dual meet tournament with losses to South Central Calhoun (Lake City) by eight points and to Estherville-Lincoln Central by five. Norwalk downed the Rams by 26. Greene County gave Norwalk 24 points via forfeits and 18 each to SCC and E-LC. The Rams won 18 of 30 matches they actually wrestled on Saturday and Coach Sawhill commented about how he thought his wrestlers did. “I thought we did pretty well from 120 through 152. Those kids have been around here for a long time and they wrestled up to their ability. Some of them maybe wrestled a little bit harder than I’ve ever seen them wrestle, so I was real happy with what they were doing. They stayed on the offense a lot better than what they’ve done in the past.”Greene County wrestlers from 120-152 lbs. were 17-1 on Saturday, but 1-11 from 160 through 285 lbs.

Next up for Greene County is a Thursday, Dec. 12 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference dual meet in the middle school gym in Jefferson on KG98 with Roland-Story (Story City). Coverage of R-S and the Rams starts at approximately 6:45 p.m. on KG98.
