Greene Co. SupervisorsThe Greene County Board of Supervisors met yesterday in regular session.

The Board heard an update about the City of Jefferson from administrator Mike Palmer.

He reported that Hy-Vee Incorporated has filled in the remaining areas where existing foundation was at in their property and they will let that sit over winter before construction of the facility begins in the spring.

The Jefferson Municipal Golf Course, pending approval from tonight’s City Council meeting, will have new management.  Palmer said Greene Properties, LLC. will be taking on the day-to-day operation and maintenance of the clubhouse.  The agreement also includes the City taking care of the course itself along with all maintenance equipment.  Palmer told the Board the City will continue to pay Bret Madsen as a seasonal worker to help with the maintenance of the course.

The County Recorder’s report of fees for November at $5,608.90, the treasurer’s investments for November at $5,845,411.65 along with issuing 240 driver’s licenses were all approved.

The Supervisors discussed passing a resolution in support of Governor Branstad’s Home Base Iowa Initiative that he wants veterans to come to Iowa to receive jobs.  Vice-Chair Guy Richardson said in order for the county to be a flagship location, the government bodies have to show support for the initiative in some way.  A concern was brought up by Chair John Muir about having the most qualified individual still be considered for a job opportunity.  Richardson’s reply to that was if all things were equal, preference would be given to the veteran.  No action was taken on the issue until proper language was looked into as far as how a resolution would be stated.

The Board approved Dr. David Jaskey to the Board of Health and approved appropriating the final 15% for the cabins at Spring Lake Park for the conservation department for the 2013 fiscal year.

Finally, County Engineer Wade Weiss requested that by next meeting, the Board could consider adding some miles of county roads to the no snow removal ordinance list to better help the secondary roads department out.
