After suffering their first losses of the season, both the girls and boys basketball teams for Paton-Churdan each righted their ships on Saturday picking up a doubleheader victory over the CAM Cougars.

The girls won easily 69-35 off the back of making 14 three’s with sophomore guard Sydney Koch cashing in all 21 of her points from downtown; she also tallied three assists.

Head coach Chris Peterson talks about his fantastic outside play on the offensive end, stepping up from a 3-23 three-point shooting effort on Friday.

“Perimeter-wise, (it was) a great difference, a lot of teams will try to pack it in on us for our bigs.  And tonight we were really able to capitalize with our outside shooting which was outstanding tonight.”

Not only that, but the Rockets created havoc on the defensive-end, forcing 20 Cougar turnovers and making 19 points off of those turnovers.  The P-C girls were led by sophomore Carleigh Paup who had 33 points, four assists and two rebounds.

As for the boys, after some struggles early to start the game as CAM jumped out to an early 5-2 lead in the first quarter, P-C took the lead back at 7-5 with 5:14 left in the opening quarter and never looked back on their way to a 57-35 win.

Junior Jake Carey created several Cougar turnovers as he ended up being the game’s high scorer with 25 points with six rebounds and two assists.  At one point, the Rockets were on a 14-0 run stretching a little over six minutes from the second to the middle of the third quarter, shutting down most of CAM’s offensive opportunities.

Head coach Chris Stimson says his guys came out with intensity and stepped up the defense after facing their first defeat of the season on Friday.

Both Paton-Churdan teams improve to 4-1 on the season and 3-1 in the Rolling Hills Conference with a trip to Coon Rapids-Bayard on Tuesday.
