ADMThe ADM boys basketball team went 1-2 last week, beating Newton a week ago today before falling to Carroll and Creston over the weekend.

Aaron Mager’s club is now 2-3 overall on the season and 1-1 in conference play.  The Tigers have tonight off but will be back in action this Friday against conference foe Ballard in the back-half of a varsity doubleheader at home.

Here is Coach Mager reflecting on his team’s performance last Friday against Carroll.

“I didn’t think we played overly well offensively, we weren’t very patient–especially in the first half.  Individually speaking, we tried to do maybe more than what we should and therefore we had four other people kind of standing around going, ‘what’s going on, what are you doing?’, instead of executing as a team.  I thought we went individualistic and obviously that didn’t work… we had three points at the end of the first quarter, and you’re not going to beat a good team, you’re not even going to beat poor teams if you score like that… so that’s an issue.”

ADM’s offensive execution was better Saturday inside Wells Fargo Arena when the Tigers took on Creston, but the consistency over 32 minutes is still lacking for their head coach’s liking.

Over the past three games, ADM has put together one big quarter scoring-wise and then has had offensive lulls in the other stanzas.

Mager explains how his team can get better with its offensive consistency.

“We need to work the ball around a little more.  I don’t know what our average passes per possession is, but generally in high school basketball, if you can go four passes or more, a lot of times you’re successful because the defense is going to break down.  We’ve got to work more patiently, not to say we can’t take some early shots if they’re good shots but sometimes we force things.”

Mager says ball movement will be a focal point in practice this week in advance of the Tigers’ game against Ballard.

Pregame coverage of Friday’s doubleheader will begin at 5:45 on K107.
