A tall and experienced South Hamilton boys’ basketball team was too much for Greene County on Tuesday night in Jewell and the Hawks won 71-50 on their home floor in Jewell in action heard on KG98. SH improved to 4-1 overall and in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play while the Rams fell to 1-4 overall and in league action.

Four seniors started and four more seniors were the first bench players for the Hawks. The Rams started two juniors, two sophomores, and a ninth grader, and just one senior saw appreciable minutes.

The game was tied 11-11 late in the first quarter before the Hawks went on a 13-0 run to go up 24-11 early in the second quarter. Matt Hislop had 17 of his game-high 21 points in the first half for the Hawks. Freshman Trey Tucker had 11 points to lead the Rams before he fouled out with 2:32 to go in the game.

The Greene County teams are at Nevada on Friday with coverage on KG98 starting at 5:45 p.m. The girls play at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow.
