basketball thru hoopFor ADM head boys’ basketball coach Aaron Mager, his team’s 2-4 record speaks for itself: “it isn’t good enough.”

A season ago, the Tigers were 2-4 through their first six games, and the season ended with a 3-19 record.  Mager doesn’t think this year’s team has that type of collapse in them, but one thing he does know, is that his team can work harder.

“Mentally we’re a little bit on edge now, we need to have some successes to get that back but we need to work harder.  I really think… I think we’re working hard hard but I think there is more there.”

With forward Grant Goeden out for the remainder of the season, the Tigers’ will need players to step up and fill not only the void in production created by Goeden’s absence, but also in work ethic and energy.

Mager believes the three Sloss brothers–Robbie, Joe and Jake–can be those guys.

“Right now, I think collectively we’re getting about 11 points (per game) out of the three guys, and that needs to push up into that 15/16 (point range)–I think that’s well within their reach.  That’s an obtainable thing because they’re all pretty good basketball players, and I think they would say the same–I think they expect more out of themselves too.”

Mager adds that in reality he thinks everybody on his roster can step up with their production, including leading scorer Logan Essy.

Mager knows there is more pressure than ever on Essy to score the basketball with Goeden out, but he believes the senior point guard can handle an even greater scoring load.
