The Greene County high school basketball teams start 2014 with a girl/boy doubleheader in Gilbert on Jan. 3. Coverage on KG98 begins at 5;45 p.m. with the girls’ game at 6 p.m. and the boys’ to follow.

Gilbert has a brand new high school and gymnasium located about 1-1/2 blocks south of the old facility. Ram boys’ head coach Jeramie Hinote said it’s always fun to play in a new gym and he and the players are looking forward to it. “We’re looking forward to playing in Gilbert’s new gym and we’re looking ahead to the rest of the season. We went 1-4 in December and when I looked at the December schedule I figured it would be tough. We’ve had five or six really good practices since Christmas and I think we’ve improved in a number of areas. We’re looking forward to getting the season back underway.”

The Tigers are 3-4 overall and 2-4 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference.
