The weekend was good for the Greene County boys’ basketball team. After heading into Friday night with a 1-6 record, the Rams are 3-6 overall after winning in Des Moines over Saydel on Friday and following that up with a non-conference home win in Jefferson on Saturday night vs. Prairie Valley (Gowrie), 80-69. Both nights of action were broadcast on KG98. The Warriors lead 15-10 after one quarter, but the Rams put 36 points on the board in the second quarter to lead 46-32 at intermission. The Warriors closed the gap to five points in the third quarter and were within six at 68-62 in the fourth quarter before the Rams won by 11.

Freshman Trey Tucker lead all scorers with 28 points. The Greene County ninth grader scored 34 at Saydel on Friday night and has four straight game of 21 or more. Sophomore Tyler Beger added 11 points with 10 each by sophomore Max Neese and junior Landon Braun.

PV also had four players score in double figures with senior Austin Wood leading the way with 18. Freshman Dakota Jaeschke and senior Ethan Wiederin each had 12 points and junior Skylar Warheim scored 10 as PV fell to 1-8 on the season. The Warriors were coming off their first win of the season just one night earlier when they won 49-42 vs. Sioux Central (Sioux Rapids).

Greene County plays on KG98 Jan. 14 in Story City vs. Roland-Story. Coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. with the girls’ game at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.
