basketball thru hoopThe ADM girls basketball team lost its fifth consecutive game Tuesday night against Carlisle, and there is recurring trend in each of those games that has led to losses–the Tigers simply can’t put the ball through the hoop.

During this current five-game skid, ADM is shooting just 25.9% from the field as teams have gone into zone defenses to force the Tigers to prove they can make shots.  Unfortunately, ADM hasn’t proven that of late, and head coach Brett Watson is searching for answers.

“We’re just thinking too much.  We’re kind of indecisive with our shooting, and when you start throwing ‘thinking’ into the equation when you’re shooting the basketball, then you’re in trouble.  The best shooters don’t have a conscience, they don’t think at all–they just play off their natural ability and if they’re open, they fire it.  So somehow, someway we’ve got to get our girls to stop thinking, shoot the ball with confidence and just put the ball up in the air.”

Despite their offensive woes, all isn’t lost for the Tigers.  Coach Watson says there was one big positive ADM can take away from Tuesday’s game and build off of moving forward.

“We rebounded better than we have all year, our boxing out was tremendous.  That was really great to see because we have been emphasizing that a lot and the girls bought into it.  Now that we working on it in practice, to see it in games… that’s really huge for us.”

ADM will need another good performance on the boards and a significantly better performance offensively tomorrow night against Bondurant-Farrar.  While the Bluejays are on a slide of their own having lost three straight, they’re still ranked in the top-5 in Class 3-A and return their entire roster from a team that knocked off the Tigers twice a season ago.
