The Heart of Iowa Activities Conference basketball season continues tonight for the Greene County teams when PCM (Monroe) pays a visit to the middle school gym in Jefferson. The Mustangs swept the Rams early last month in Monroe and they are likely to present quite a challenge for the Rams tonight. Coverage on KG98 starts at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.
The PCM girls are 7-5 overall and 6-4 in the conference. Transfer student Rachel Freland, a 5′ 11″ sophomore, formerly a standout player at West Marshall, is eligible and should give the Mustangs a boost the second half of the season. PCM was a 54-25 winner over the Rams without Freland in the first meeting of the two. Coach Chad Morton’s team is 6-6 overall and 5-5 in conference play. The Rams are 1-4 this month and they’ve lost their last four conference games.
PCM is ranked in the top five among Class 2A boys’ teams. The 10-0 Mustangs are 9-0 in the HOIAC and lead by two games in the standings. The Rams are 3-7 overall and 2-7 in the league. Greene County lost in Monroe last month 73-42.
