basketball thru hoopFor ADM girls basketball coach Brett Watson, winning feels a heck of a lot better than losing, especially when a win breaks a six-game skid.

The Tigers won a thrilling contest over Pella on Tuesday night, 45-44 the final, thanks to a late three-pointer from senior Kendra Chapman.  Chapman’s three gave ADM a one-point lead it would not relinquish, and Coach Watson says the shot simply came within the flow of the Tigers’ offense.

“What’s unique about our offense is we get our forwards outside a little bit, and what you saw (Tuesday night) was a Pella defender who wasn’t used to guarding out on the perimeter.  Chapman and Jacobsen are both great outside shooters, so when defenders forget about them and stay inside, that gives them a wide open look outside and that’s what we had.  (Kendra) just stepped and buried it with confidence–it was a big shot for us.”

Chapman’s shot propelled the Tigers to their first win in the 2014 calendar year, and Coach Watson believes the proverbial guerilla is now off his team’s back.  He could sense as much in the locker room after the win.

“They’re smiling, laughing and having a lot of fun.  I brought my son (Breckin) in the locker room–they like to see him after victories–so that’s always kind of fun.  It was just a good atmosphere.  The girls finally said, ‘hey, we’re back, we’re back to where we were before’, so they’re very excited.”

We’ll see if the ADM girls can continue with their refound winning ways tomorrow and Saturday.  The Tigers will travel to Winterset and West Central Valley for games this weekend.
