Greene County and Collins-Maxwell-Baxter split a pair of Heart of Iowa Activities Conference basketball games on Friday night in Baxter. The Rams won 51-41 in girls’ action while the Raiders took the boys’ contest 87-57. Both games were heard on KG98.

Coach Chad Morton’s Rams improved to 8-7 on the girls’ season and 7-6 in the conference while CMB fell to 2-11 in the league and 4-13 overall. CMB senior Abbie Haupert led all scorers with 19 points. Greene County was led in scoring by junior Kayla Mobley with 18 points and junior Jolee Wessling added 10. The Rams led 15-12 after one quarter and were up 26-16 at the half. Twelve points was the biggest lead and that was early in the final stanza. CMB trimmed the score to 45-39 with 1:08 remaining, but could get no closer.

The Raiders dominated the boys’ game after leading 19-3 at the end of the first quarter. The lead reached 35 points with 1:01 to go in the third quarter and the rest of the game was played with a running clock, although the clock stopped often because of shooting fouls. Greene County was whistled for five fouls in the first 1:10 of play to start the second half. The Raiders were 22 of 29 shooting free throws and the Rams were 24 of 33. A total of 46 fouls were called, 25 on the Rams. Greene County falls to 5-8 overall and 4-7 in the Heart of Iowa. CMB has won 12 of their last 13 games and is 12-3 overall and 9-3 in conference play. Twelve different players scored points for CMB with Seth Balke leading the way with 15. Ram freshman Trey Tucker had 23 points, his eighth straight contest with at least 20.

The Greene County teams host South Hamilton (Jewell) on Jan. 28 in the middle school gym in Jefferson. Coverage on KG98 begins at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 and the boys to follow.
