Greene County head football coach Dean Lansman knew his team would be playing in Class 3A for the 2014 and ’15 seasons after  being a 2A program the last four years, but he didn’t know until Jan. 23 which district the Rams would be in. Greene County finds themselves in 3A District 2 along with Algona, Boone, Carroll High, Humboldt, Perry, and Webster City. Four of the seven will advance to the playoffs.

Coach Lansman told Raccoon Valley Radio. “I think it’s a nice little district. We see Algona for the first time, and renew some old rivalries with teams like Carroll, Boone, Humboldt, and Webster City. In some cases we haven’t played in 20 years, where others it’s been only a few years. And, we continue our series with Perry, which we’ve played in The Cowbell Game for decades.” He added, “The travel will be much less than the last four years when we’ve gone from Ida Grove to Shenandoah, and quite a few places in between.”

The Rams will play three non-district games and the process of determining those is underway by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.. Coach Lansman expects to know the non-district opponents for the next two seasons later in February.

Raccoon Valley Radio will continue broadcasting all of the Greene County football games on a play-by-play basis on KG98. Games are also streamed on raccoonvalleyradio.com and available on iphones and smartphones. There’s also an on-demand feature allowing listeners to go back and listen to games.
