The Greene County girls and South Hamilton (Jewell) b0ys were Heart of Iowa Activities Conference basketball winners in Jefferson on Tuesday night as heard on KG98. Greene County improved to 9-7 in girls’ basketball with a 78-36 victory and Coach Chad Morton’s team is now 8-6 in conference play. SH fell to 1-16 overall and 1-14 in the league.

Junior Emily Christensen scored a career high 23 points for the Rams with junior Kayla Mobley adding 20. Christensen hit five three-point field goals on her first five attempts.

SH was led by junior Savanna Stangeland with 18 points.

The SH boys led the Rams 33-31 late in the second quarter, but held a 40-32 advantage at the half and scored the first seven of the second half to go up by 15 and the Rams were not able to recover. The Hawks lead the HOIAC with a 12-2 mark and are 13-3 overall. Greene County fell to 5-9 overall and 4-9 in conference games.

SH senior Ross Enderson committed a foul with 6:17 to play and was injured. He was taken off on a stretcher following a delay of about 20 minutes. Trevor Ullestad and Collin Hill each scored 17 points for SH.

Landon Braun had 18 and Trey Tucker 13 for the Rams. Mitchell Gorsuch came off the bench to score 11. The Rams had nine goals from three-point range and the Hawks had seven.

Next up for the Greene County teams is a Jan. 31 girl/boy twin bill vs. Nevada in the middle school gym in Jefferson. Coverage on KG98 starts at 5:45 p.m. with the girls’ game at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.
