Greene County hosted PCM (Monroe) and Colfax-Mingo in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference wrestling on Thursday night in the middle school gym in Jefferson and split the two matches. PCM was a 38-34 winner over the Rams and the Mustangs downed C-M by a 60-18 score. Greene County defeated C-M by a final of 51-18.

The Rams finish the regular season with a dual meet record of 10-11 and they were 5-4 in the conference. PCM is 6-1 in the league and C-M went 0-9. Forfeits cost Greene County in the match vs. PCM as the Mustangs collected 24 points in forfeits while the Rams collected just six. The Rams won six of the nine matches actually wrestled vs. PCM. Greene County won five of the six matches actually wrestled vs. C-M with the highlight being a 5-3 victory for senior Jacob Challen, his 100th career win. Challen (29-4) nipped Brett Stevens (20-4) in a rematch of last Saturday’s HOIAC title match at 120 lbs. Challen won the conference title match by fall, but this time it went down to the wire.

Rene’ Guzman, Dylan Forkner, and Jeremy Scheuermann are the other Ram seniors that wrestled Thursday night and they all went 2-0. Forkner scored a takedown with 10 seconds left vs. PCM to edge Tristan Clark 4-3. Forkner beat Clark 6-1 on Saturday to win the HOIAC title at 126 lbs. The Ram senior is now 29-2 while Clark fell to 27-7. Tommy Bradshaw won twice by fall to improve to 33-1, and Jordan Challen and Abe Yoder also won twice. The younger Challen is now 29-5 and Yoder is 24-9. Forkner is 30-2 and Scheuermann is 35-2.

Greene County completes the regular season on Feb. 1 at the Guthrie Center Invitational.
